Jason Leigh, the director of LAVA is a pioneer in the area of advanced display environments. In 2012 he co-invented the CAVE2 virtual realty environment while director of the Electronic Visualization Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Chicago. CAVE2s are now sold commercially by Mechdyne, and used by organizations including Monash University, Chinese Academy of Forestry, and Raytheon Corporation. Cyber-CANOE (Collaborative Analytics Navigation and Observation Environment) intends to examine the future of intelligent display-rich environments by evaluating and leveraging emerging display technologies such as flexible/curved, 3D, and multi-modal interactive displays.
