There are few good modern/electronic resources for the Sāmoan language. The University of Hawaiʻi is one of the few universities in the world that offers formal instruction in Polynesian languages such as Sāmoan, Tongan and Hawaiʻian. This project intends to provide an easier-to-use open electronic dictionary for Sāmoan language learners. This is achieved with two specific features: the simplified display of translations rather than the traditional dictionary formats that are often difficult to use; and the relaxing of search criteria so that diacritics can be optionally entered. This makes it easier for beginners to find words without penalizing them for not knowing the diacritics.
